New Job
So, I've ended up in the so-called “real world” with a shiny new job. Well, almost an old job now, as I started about a month ago (a partial explanation for my recent absence from the blogosphere). Also, I've moved. Well, I've moved out of the old flat. Apparently, my use of f.lux to colour-balance my monitors down to ~4000K1 has stained the room a lovely orange. Either that, or the photos are slightly off colour — take your pic(k). I'm going to miss this space.
I'm now safety installed at Mindwork Labs2, who you can read all about on their website. I've been rather busy learning the code bases over the last few weeks (which is likely to lead to some choice statements on PHP, and the use of MVC-like design patterns3). However, the fact I'm now working on code in a company means that I'm going to have considerably fewer projects that I can post about here.
I may eventually get a mention on Mindwork's Blog (and it may also contain some other things that are worth reading — though, take a warning about the much freer use of language of other members of the team). In the meantime, I'm planning to carry on with the LaTeX Atrocity series, and to see if there's anything worth writing about in the world of politics: you can see my listening plan for this afternoon to the right4, and you can always catch up with how I'm getting on with them over at last.fm.
For now, I'm still ‘homeless’. I'd like to thank people who've put me up for the last month and a half, especially for not pushing me to leave once my assets became liquid again. This does however mean that I'm still packed up in my boxes, including most of my computing hardware. I've been taking this a lot better than people might expect me to — probably related to the fact I still have a small EEE-pc for messaging, and the work machine is just about capable for most things5.
The lack of real evening computer power has, unfortunately, lead to most of my projects grinding to a halt, with the exception of the DoCitten suite which has been going through quite an extended period of testing. The other projects which have made it as far as being checked-out6 aren't yet really ready to be discussed, so pasts for the next little while may be quite sparse (especially as the LaTeX takes time to research).
