On Wizards and Witchcraft
First, Wizards
Specifically, Matthew Lewis, who portrayed Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films, who I was mistaken for again. The fact is that I, unfortunately, look more like Neville than he does (the wiki section on his make up gives an idea of the amount he changes). I (and many others) have heard rumours that he is studying at Imperial College, which properly explains the number of people who ask. It's still strange, being approached in a darkish street and being asked "are you the guy from Harry Potter".
And then, Witchcraft1
This refers to the hellish new concept in Internet Explorer 9 - rendering pages using DirectXTM. I'm not certain how this is even going to work, but it's sure as hell going to slow down all of the other DirectXTM functionality, such as most of the windows graphic features. This is yet another example of using resources just because it is possible to have them. No-one seems to have noticed the analogue between the over usage to depletion of the Earth's resources, and that of a computer's resources. Perhaps because people can build new computers. Perhaps I notice it more as I have one machine, which is slowly beginning to age?
This all said, the new Unigine DirectXTM 11 specification with tessellation filters look extrememly impressive: take a look on reddit or pcgameshardware.com.
- Please note that the allusion of any branch of the Microsoft Corporation to any branch of wizardry, witchcraft, or any from of devil worship2 is purely for the purposes of humour, and does not represent the view of any business, group, or charity that I am a part of. I myself do not believe that Steve Jobs' illness was caused by Paul Allen's voodoo doll.
- Those who wish to draw an association between witchcraft and devil worshipping may do so at their own risk. Some of those witches are powerful.
